Book’s Description

"Khmer Rouge" was the name King Norodom Sihanouk gave to his communist opponents in 1960s. Their official name was the Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK), which took control of Cambodia on April 17, 1975.

This book is the first book about the Khmer Rouge Regime wirtitten by Cambodians. Like no other books before it presents an authentic view of the history and the background of Democratic Kampuchea.

The CPK created the state of Democratic Kampuchea in 1975 and ruled the country ntil January 1979. The party's existence was kept secret until 1977 and no one outside the CPK knew who its leaders were (the leaders called themselves "Angkar Padevat").

A few days after they took power in 1975, The Khmer Rouge forced perhaps two million people in Phnom Penh and other cities into the countryside to undertake agricultural work. Thousands of people died during the evacuations.
